Canes' Svechnikov in concussion protocol after fight

Canes' Svechnikov in concussion protocol after fight

If your name is Andrei Svechnikov, you probably regret dropping the gloves with Alex Ovechkin during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference first round series between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night. And then, I don't know if there's words exchanged, but one guy's gloves come off way first.

Svechnikov's head hit the ice on the way down. The rookie player remained sprawled out for a spell before being escorted off by his team's trainers.

Both players received five-minute penalties for fighting, and Svechnikov was ultimately barred from returning.

Svechnikov struggled to get to his feet after the fight and was helped off the ice by Hurricanes staff. "You're right: I'm not a big fighter".

Addressing her ex directly, she continued: "Re Sam, I loved him v much and only wish him happiness and success going forward". My parents believed we could win without it, but I wanted to walk away from the whole thing.

Ovechkin addressed the fight after the game was over, saying "I hope [Svechnikov] is okay". You don't want to see a guy get hurt or something.

"It's a little bit frustrating, because he got hurt, it's his first fight", Brind'Amour said. "We knew we needed to get this win, not just for us, but for him", said Hurricanes rookie Warren Foegele, according to CBC.

In a scary brawl featuring two unlikely foes in Ovechkin - the grizzly future Hall of Famer and Svechnikov, the Carolina Hurricanes' 19-year-old wunderkind trying to follow in The Great 8's footsteps - the elder Russian won in a knockout fashion that would leave even Mike Tyson speechless.

His first National Hockey League fight was against future teammate Mike Richards on 9/26/2006 - during the preseason - and getting another a little more than two months later on December 2. He asked me to fight, I said, 'Let's go, yeah.' So, I hope he's OK.

Williamson was the AP Player of the Year, Naismith Award victor and Wooden Award victor among his many accolades this season. On Monday afternoon, though, Williamson posted on Instagram that his time in Durham had come to an end.

In the Twittersphere, folks appear to be pretty torn up about the fight.

The Capitals lead the series 2-1 going into Game 4 on Thursday.

Brind'Amour did emphasize, though, that Svechnikov went to the hospital and "everything checked out". "I'm still sick to my stomach about it", Brind'Amour told reporters Monday.
