Trump calls Muslim lawmaker Ilhan Omar 'out of control' in latest attack

Trump calls Muslim lawmaker Ilhan Omar 'out of control' in latest attack

"The president's words weigh a ton, and his hateful and inflammatory rhetoric creates real danger", Pelosi said.

The statement even prompted the father of a New York firefighter who died on September 11, 2001, to pen an op-ed in the New York Post titled, "My FDNY son's death on 9/11 was more than just 'something'".

Tweeting on Monday, Trump showed he wasn't prepared to back down over the furor, accusing Omar of making "anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and ungrateful U.S. HATE statements" and calling on top Democrat Nancy Pelosi to step in.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., speaks during an interview with The Associated Press in her office at the Capitol in Washington, April 10, 2019.

The women-led group also denounced the video, calling it "a risky incitement [that] puts Rep. Omar's life in danger".

When asked about the infraction, Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock said he didn't see it and has not yet reviewed it. Though Marleau was fine, Kadri immediately jumped in to retaliate against DeBrusk and cross-checked him in the face.

But "what we are saying is, to have a message that appeals to people in a way that does not menace them", she said. Trump's tweet intercut video of the World Trade Center towers burning with video of Omar speaking about the increasing attacks on the Muslim American community after 9/11.

The latest round of attacks on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar seem to have started after a video of Omar describing the 9/11 attacks as "some people did something" began circulating on the internet, giving the right-wing media an opportunity to accuse her of belittling the largest foreign attack on United States soil.

The comments were taken out of context however.

Ilhan Omar has faced death threats.

"I find her comments to be absolutely disgraceful and unbefitting of a member of Congress", said Sanders, who thought that "it's a good thing the president is calling her out".

The Minnesota congresswoman said she had experienced an increase in death threats, many directly referencing or replying to the president's video.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday she had spoken with the House Sergeant at Arms about Omar's safety and that she wanted to make sure a security assessment was being conducted. Rashida Tlaib, was one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress. Omar was joined by some Democratic colleagues, including Tlaib, in condemning the president's video as an incitement to violence.

Trump posted the video after Omar described the 9/11 terrorist attacks by radical Islamists as "some people who did something". "Until the time that you realize the importance of 9/11 as the worst day in American history, I call for your removal from Congress". Leading members of Omar's centre-left Democrat party have stepped up to defend her, including several presidential candidates.

The controversy arose after Omar delivered a 20-minute address to the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) shortly after the New Zealand mosque attacks in March. While criticizing Trump for his threat to ship undocumented immigrants to "sanctuary cities" like San Francisco-where Pelosi's congressional district is located-she declared, "I'm not giving up on the president", as a possible partner on immigration policy.

On Sunday, Pelosi asked House officials to review security measures meant to protect Representative Omar after President Trump's tweet.
