Johnny Manziel signs contract with AAF

Johnny Manziel is headed back to the United States to play football, and it will be in Memphis, Tennessee. "We completed extensive background work to determine whether it would be appropriate for Johnny to play this season, and after consulting with many people familiar with his situation, we concluded that it would be good for him to resume his pro football career here at The Alliance".

Teams with the worst records in the league will get the chance to pick him up, according to ESPN. The Express, who have struggled offensively all season, are on their third quarterback, starting with former Jets bust Christian Hackenberg, followed by Zach Mettenberger.

Former Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy victor Johnny Manziel has signed a player agreement with the Alliance of American football, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Just weeks after he was released by his Canadian Football League team and essentially banned from signing anywhere else, the former Heisman Trophy victor gets yet another shot to show that he has something left in the tank.

The Canadian who is enjoying her breakout season is appearing in her first Premier Mandatory event. Following Fed Cup and her Dubai title over Petra Kvitova, Bencic has now won her last 11 matches.

The 2012 Heisman Trophy victor at Texas A&M had his contract with the CFL terminated this offseason. The CFL also effectively barred Manziel from joining any other team in the league.

The statement from the Alliance said that Manziel "will report to Memphis tomorrow, where we all believe he'll benefit from the coaching and mentorship of Mike Singletary". AAF chairman Tom Dundon said earlier this month that Manziel would not receive any special treatment in the league, and will get the same three-year, $250,000 deal that every player gets.

He played just two seasons with the team before he was released. In 2016, a domestic assault charge against Manziel in Dallas was dismissed after he took an anger management course and participated in the NFL's substance abuse program. He spent two seasons with the Cleveland Browns after being picked up in the 2014 National Football League draft, but went 2-6 as their starting quarterback.
