Google Releases Android Q Beta for Developers, Early Adopters

Google has just released the developer beta for Q, which doesn't even have a name yet.

Also called Android Q, it is now only available in beta to Google Pixel users. It'll be buggy, and serves as a way for Google to get feedback before releasing it to the general public. This is something most devices have for ages, and with the Q update this feature will be natively supported. With this change, users can prevent this and limit location access to apps only while they are being used.

As Android fans know, every new version of the operating system is named after a sweet treat. Right now, users can either grant or deny location access to an app which leads to many apps silently tracking the location of their users in the background.

However, like previous smartphone offerings from Google, the Pixel 3a will likely not support the expansion of the internal flash storage using a microSD card.

The pausing and resuming of multiple apps and resizing of app windows will be enhanced to improve performance when switching between display modes.

Add to that a whole host of smaller updates and behind the scenes tweaks - from the ability to undo changes to the home screen to code optimisations - as well as new features still to be announced, and there's a lot to explore in Android Q. Share targets are published in advance to ensure that the Share UI loads instantly when triggered.

Monochrome is self-explanatory, and can be found in the current version of Android, 9.0 Pie. Under the Wi-Fi section, you can share the password in the form of a QR code, or read one such QR code to connect to Wi-Fi.

The value is used in mathematical equations for circles, cylinders and waves. "Pi seems simple - it starts with 3.14", she says. Googler Emma Haraku Iwao took her fascination with pi all the way to 31.4 trillion digits.

These improvements also make it easier to manage IoT devices over local Wi-Fi networks, Burke stated.

Interestingly, using this emulator with the fledgling OS version for the few hours it has been available, Twitter user Michael Young noticed an expansive "Desktop Mode" was included in Android Q.

Finally, Android 10 will require 64-bit support in all apps.
