Single trade deadline among Major League Baseball rule changes

One thing I learned from my eight years of writing about Major League Baseball is that people generally don't care about 29 of the 30 teams.

The three-batter minimum, perhaps the most controversial measure expected to be implemented, was not formally agreed to by the union, but ESPN's Jeff Passan says the players do not plan to challenge it.

This is another attempt to prevent the slowing of games with pitching changes during half innings.

Both Clubs will start the 10th inning of the All-Star Game, and each subsequent inning, with a runner on second base (re-entry substitutions allowed for runners).

"The idea, first proposed by the union, is to protect the competitive integrity of the 162-game regular season, create more certainty for players and force teams to decide earlier whether they are buyers or sellers", Ken Rosenthal wrote in The Athletic.

~ Expanded September rosters can include a maximum of 28 players and 14 pitchers at the most in 2020.

How major USA stock indexes fared Tuesday
Shares in Southwest Airlines sank 2.12 percent while American Airlines lost 0.2 percent, United Continental gave up 0.8 percent. Stocks are moving steadily higher in midday trading on Wall Street, putting the market on track for its third gain in a row.

The maximum number of mound visits allowed to each team has been reduced to five, from six.

While the majority of the rules governing roster management won't take effect until the 2020 season, a number of changes governing other aspects of the game take effect in 2019.

The number of pitchers on the active roster will be determined by a joint committee of Major League Baseball and the MLBPA.

The amount of players on an MLB Active Roster from Opening Day to August 31st and the postseason will increase from 25 to 26.

Also taking effect in 2019, inning breaks will be reduced from 2 minutes and 5 seconds to a flat two minutes for local games, and from 2:25 to 2:00 in national broadcasts. The August waiver trades will be eliminated.

There will be only one trade deadline, July 31.

Tim Tebow Reassigned To Mets' Minor League Camp
Tebow says that he's never actually been to Syracuse, but he's looking forward to the opportunity. "And we all have cell phones". In eight Grapefruit League games this spring Tebow went 4 for 15 (.267) with four singles, one walk, and three strikeouts.

Voting for the MLB All-Star Game will now happen on one day, in what the two sides are describing as an "Election Day". The fans then can vote on position players.

The rule is meant to curb the rise of position players pitching-often to horrendous results-that spiked previous year.

Baseball's heaviest hitters will have a good reason to participate in the Home Run Derby: Money.

The total prize money for the Home Run Derby will increase to $2.5 million and the victor will get $1 million. Imagine Francisco Lindor or Jose Ramirez at the plate needing to hit 13 home runs to win the derby and win the bonus money.

Injured List and Option Period for Pitchers: Subject to input from the joint committee, the minimum placement period for pitchers on the Injured List shall increase from 10 days to 15 days, and the minimum assignment period of pitchers who are optionally assigned to the minors will increase from 10 days to 15 days.

Giants Agree To 4-Year Deal With WR Golden Tate
According to National Football League reporter Ian Rapoport, the Pittsburgh Steelers might not be done in free agency yet. Tate's five-year, $31 million deal would go down as one of the best moves in Martin Mayhew's tenure as general manager.
