Saints QB Drew Brees Restructures Contract, Creates $11M In Cap Space

Miami intends to draft a future franchise quarterback in the 2019 or 2020 National Football League drafts, and hopes Bridgewater could bridge the gap.

The 40-year-old Brees had one of his best seasons in 2018, throwing for 3,992 yards, with 32 touchdowns and five interceptions, while completing a record 74.4% of his passes. The Dolphins would give Bridgewater a chance to start immediately and potentially earn a much more lucrative contract in the near future.

The Dolphins are in need of a quarterback this upcoming season and Bridgewater is a Miami native. Tannehill is expected to be traded or released at some point.

Bridgewater was chosen by the Vikings in the 1st round of the 2014 draft and made the Pro Bowl in 2015.

The New Orleans Saints reached an agreement with quarterback Drew Brees to restructure his contract, freeing up salary cap space for the 2019 fiscal year. He looked great with the Jets in preseason a year ago and the Saints were willing to give up a third-round pick for Bridgewater.
