Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp All Crash Simultaneously

Over the past year, the social network has announced a series of moves to tighten handling of data, including eliminating most of its data-sharing partnerships with outside companies.

A major worldwide outage that affected Facebook and two of its social platforms - Instagram and WhatsApp - has been largely resolved.

Facebook experienced their longest ever outage on Thursday.

Travel advisory issued for Japan over measles outbreak
Measles is a serious rash illness and can usually include high fever, cough, runny nose, and red watery eyes. Timely measles and rubella surveillance is critical to disease control.

The lengthy disruption is likely to upset advertisers that spend large amounts of money to reach potential customers on Facebook platforms. Today, Facebook boasts 2.3 billion monthly users, The Verge reports, making the recent outage the worst yet for the company.

People went on Twitter to vent their frustration about the problems. Twitter even made the subject into a Twitter Moment.

After acknowledging the problem Wednesday, Facebook remained mum on the issue for almost 24 hours before issuing an explanation and apology around 1630 GMT Thursday. But the company said Thursday that it has fixed the problem and that its systems are "recovering".

Cloud-based, privacy-focused messenger system Telegram added a whopping 3 million new users to its estimated 200 million user base in a single day after Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp all went down.

Earlier on Thursday, the outage-tracking service DownDetector showed significantly fewer people having issues accessing Facebook and Instagram compared to Wednesday, when the outage began. The Facebook family of apps, including Instagram, were down for almost 14 hours, according to CNN.
