Madison Students Plan to Join International Climate Strike

Tens of thousands of children and young people are expected to take part in the next global climate strike which takes place this Friday, 15 March 2019, in nearly 100 countries worldwide and up to 100 locations across the UK.

The global youth movement was kick-started a year ago by Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg, who had refused to go to school in order to pressure her government to take more drastic climate action.

Greta is recognised around the world as a model for positive action and local students are gearing up to stage another strike for the climate this Friday in Byron Shire. "Her group is led largely by young women of color, which she said should come as no surprise, because people who are already vulnerable are going to be disproportionately hit by climate change".

"This is about striking as a legitimate form of protest", she said.

The protests are calling on the government to stop the Adani coal mine and to commit to 100 per cent renewable energy sources by 2030.

A small number of parents had contacted Yeatman, but they were not in support of students missing class for the strike.

The move - revealed in a letter from council chief Annemarie O'Donnell to Glasgow's Green MSP Patrick Harvie - represents a shift in the council's message from before the last youth climate strike.

As well as marches in Dublin and Cork, there will be strike events outside local authority offices in counties from Kerry to Donegal, Meath to Galway, and locally at school gates across the country.

Rollins admires the people who will strike but expects some students to use the day as an excuse to skip school. Our society's failure to take genuine climate action is an appalling intergenerational betrayal. However, what I saw through my snorkel mask was far different.

"I've always had a passion for the environment - and climate change is a massive problem".

With the federal election coming up, awareness of Australia's climate inaction is as important as it ever has been, especially for Australia's youth.

It is evident amongst my peers at school that we feel let down by our current government. She said the action is meant to put the spotlight on an issue that impacts all Americans, regardless of party affiliation.

Jussie Smollett: 'Empire' Star Enters Court in Style Ahead of Hearing
A spokeswoman for Smollett's attorneys says the actor is expected to attend Tuesday's hearing in Cook County criminal court. He entered with Tina Glendian, a lawyer from his attorney Mark Geragos' firm. "They fully cooperated with the police".

Furthermore, our age often lets us down. Now they are just debating how fast or what we need to do. So instead of looking for hope, look for action.

"I school striked for the climate".

A TEDx talk she delivered on climate change now carried on TED's main website has garnered more than 1.2 million views and last month Thunberg joined protests in Belgium, where she won a European Union pledge to spend billions of euros to combat climate change.

She says the world is essentially in meltdown, and the impact of a few hours off school pales in comparison to the likely impact of climate change on the lives of today's children. What is your response to these comments? "We are encouraged that children are making their voices heard", they stated.

"These are young people who are standing up to adults".

Climate Leaders is an initiative that aims to put a spotlight on the candidates with a strong stance for climate action in the upcoming election.

Our current politicians aren't listening, so we want to recruit candidates across the country to run for us and the climate. "We also want them to be responsible and safe". "Because if we don't get it, and no one does it for us, then we'll never get anything done".
