Tiger found, taken from southeast Houston home

Officials say it could easily open and the tiger could have gone on a "rampage".

But once they arrived, police found a caged tiger in the home's garage, according to KTRK.

The tiger and the cage it was in were moved to the city's animal control campus for the night after it was discovered in a house in southeast Houston on Monday, Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care spokeswoman Lara Cottingham said.

It is now being transferred to a sanctuary elsewhere in Texas - although the exact location has not been publicly disclosed. Officials said the tiger will be taken to another facility, where it will stay permanently, Tuesday.

Cottingham said the tiger, which she's calling Danielle, seemed fairly healthy, albeit a bit thirsty. "It's just finding the right combination and then transporting", Cottingham said.

"We questioned them as to whether they were under the effects of the drugs or [whether] they actually saw a tiger", Jason Alderete, from Houston Police Department, told ABC-affiliate KTRK. They are endangered - the WWF estimates there are fewer than 4,000 left in the wild.
