NY murder: Venezuela man arrested after woman found in suitcase

The dual-citizenship-holding Queens man charged Tuesday with kidnapping Valerie Reyes - found dead and stuffed in a suitcase along a CT road last week - asked the court to notify the Portuguese consulate of his arrest, but not the embassy of strife-rocked Venezuela.

Javier DeSilva, 24, was arrested in Queens Monday night for allegedly murdering Valerie Reyes, 24, of New Rochelle, New York, Greenwich Police Capt. Robert Berry said at a press conference Tuesday.

A source told the TV station the 24-year-old New Rochelle woman was "killed at her residence". Her body was found days later stuffed in a suitcase off a busy road.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Greenwich police said Da Silva was taken into custody for allegedly using a debit card belonging to Reyes.

'We are confident that the pursuit of justice for Valerie will be successful and we continue to work with the family to provide closure to this tragedy, ' the police statement said. "I was praying her family would have her back", said Brenda DeGiacomo.

Police say they have examined hundreds of hours of surveillance footage in the case and interviewed several potential witnesses. "I'm paranoid. I'm getting anxiety attacks".

Social media footprints were also analyzed, Berry said.

Vernon Geberth, a retired NYPD lieutenant-commander, told the Greenwich Time that he believes the killer crossed state lines, that the suitcase killing was "interpersonal", and suggested Reyes knew her killer and that the killing did not appear to be the work of a serial killer.

Aiello spoke with Reyes' mother, Norma Sanchez, earlier on Tuesday.

Reyes was fully clothed when she was found.

'I'm anxious someone is going to murder me, ' Reyes then allegedly blurted out.

Highway workers found her body in a wooded section of Greenwich, about 10 miles from New Rochelle.

Reyes was identified last week as the person whose body was found jammed into a piece of luggage abandoned in upscale Greenwich, Conn. Reyes' cause of death was not immediately clear.

Reyes lived alone in a basement apartment in New Rochelle and suffered at times from anxiety and depression, WABC reported.

He added, "There's no difference of opinion between the parties as I know it when it comes to risky people in this country". The legislation would allot about $1.4 billion for border fencing, far less than the $5.7 billion Trump wanted for a wall.

Police said tips have been pouring in with leads in her horrific and sudden slaying.
