UFC: Robert Whittaker 'could've died' if he fought Kelvin Gastelumn

Adesanya has been chasing a trans-Tasman fight with Whittaker and the Nigerian-born fighter was booed by the Australian crowd when he referenced Whittaker as "not turning up to work". Whittaker, according to White, is expected to miss four to eight weeks.

"We said we'll call the UFC doctors and shortly after that he started vomiting so everyone was alerted and was at his room and it was monitored from there until it got to the stage at about three in the morning where he was taken to hospital".

Gastelum, a former victor of The Ultimate Fighter, conducted interviews after the news with a title belt.

Israel Adesanya defeated his idol Anderson Silva via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 234 in Australia on Saturday.

And it said it had comprehensive insurance for the property, stock and equipment on site, and for business interruption losses. An evacuation of the site was conducted by police on 6 February due to concerns of pressurised refrigerants being on the site.

Gastelum's manager Ali Abdelaziz told Ariel Helwani on ESPN Radio that he hopes to see Gastelum face Israel Adesanya in April for an interim title.

Earlier this week, White had said the winners of the Whittaker-Gastelum and Adesanya-Silva fights would meet later this year. Instead, this match will be canceled due to Whittaker's hernia. The two athletes showed off an array of creative striking exchanges and ultimately the better of those went to the younger Adesanya.

Originally billed as the co-main event, the Adesanya-Silva showdown was elevated to main event status, and it didn't disappoint.

Whittaker is expected to be out of action for around four to six weeks as he recovers from his surgery and although there's no fight plan now in place, White has ruled out the possibility of him being stripped of his belt.
