Police Chief Swears In 6-Year-Old With Cancer, Fights Back Tears

A six-year-old girl with cancer had her dream come true when she was sworn in as an honorary police officer.

Garviey was emotional as Abigail took the oath to continue fighting the "bad guys" until she is cancer free.

So Garivey reached out to an organization in Pearland called Cop Stop, which was able to make a custom Freeport police uniform for Abigail.

Abigail has Wilms' tumour, a type of childhood cancer that starts in the kidneys.

"Abigail is battling cancer, and doctors have told the family there is no cure", they wrote, adding: "Please keep her and the Arias family in your thoughts and prayers". "Extremely tough. We cried for weeks". Garivey recalled, "She goes, 'I want to be a police officer.' I looked back at her dad and I said, "She probably should have never told me that".

But Abigail is strong, and she told her mother that the bad guys won't win this time.

Abigail is no stranger to fighting the "bad guys" - her name for cancer - so the community led by Police Chief Raymond Garivey Jr. rallied to giver her a proper induction ceremony. During the meeting, the girl expressed her desire to become a police officer when she grows up. "It's more than just putting bad guys in jail". "I want to help this cancer like go away in five seconds", Abigail said.

Garivey said, "Her spirit, her toughness, her will to survive, that's what (we believe in)".
