Man charged with kidnap and murder day after Jayme Closs, 13, found

Kristin Kasiskas told Fox News that she and her husband immediately recognized the 13-year-old Wisconsin girl whose October kidnapping captivated the nation when a neighbor, Jeanne Nutter, frantically knocked on their door at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Jayme Closs, a 13-year-old northwest Wisconsin girl who went missing in October, has been found alive.

Jayme Closs's aunt, Jennifer Naiberg Smith, posted an update on Jayme's condition Saturday morning, shared via the Healing For Jayme Closs Facebook page. "It will be a long road but we are family strong and we love this little girl so much!"

Another Aunt, Sue Allard, said she could barely express her joy after learning the news.

A 21-year-old man killed a Wisconsin couple in a scheme to kidnap their teenage daughter, then held the girl captive for almost three months before she managed to escape and reach safety as he drove around looking for her, authorities said.

Jake Thomas Patterson was arrested on two counts of first-degree homicide and one count of kidnapping, police said on Friday.

3 dead, multiple injuries following bus crash in Ottawa
Nepean's MP said the crash reminded her of another devastating incident involving an OC Transpo bus in Barrhaven back in 2013. Witnesses said first responders had to break windows and use ladders to free passengers trapped on the upper deck of the bus.

"We know he targeted her", he said of Patterson. Court records don't list an attorney for Patterson and The Associated Press was unable to reach family members to speak on his behalf.

Fitzgerald said Friday that authorities do not know how Patterson became aware of Closs, as he reportedly never had contact with her family. "She said that this person usually hides her or hides her when others are near, or when he has to leave the household".

Jayme's grandfather, Robert Naiberg, said he had been praying for months for the call he received about his granddaughter. Kasinskas said. Police were called - but before they arrived, Jayme told them that she'd been held in the Gordon area, near Kasinskas' home, by someone who killed her parents on the night she disappeared. "She said she did not know him".

The teen was able to escape from a cabin before flagging down a pedestrian walking her dog in the town of Gordon.

Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, who allegedly killed two people and held their daughter captive for three months.

He added: 'She did not talk about why or how. Investigators were still interviewing her, and she was "doing as well as circumstances allow", he said.

"He didn't know Jayme, he didn't know Denise or Jim", Naiberg said.

"I've always been a glass half-full kind of guy", Sheriff Fitzgerald said at the time.

Authorities have released few details about Patterson, who has no previous criminal record in Wisconsin, saying they were unsure whether he had known Closs. Police said Patterson had ties to Barron but did not elaborate.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says Patterson extensively plotted the attack to the point where he shaved his head to avoid leaving forensic evidence behind.

Jayme has been described as "medically cleared", although Sheriff Fitzgerald was unable to comment on whether the youngster had endured any abuse while being held captive.

Over the past few months, detectives pursued thousands of tips, watched dozens of surveillance videos and conducted numerous searches for Jayme, including one that drew 2,000 volunteers but yielded no clues. He worked for one day in 2016 at the same Jennie-O turkey plant in Barron as Jayme's parents. Girls ages 12 to 17 are most commonly abducted.
