House Democrats are launching an investigation into Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker's involvement in World Patent Marketing, where he served as a paid adviser for the Florida company shut down by a federal judge earlier this year and fined nearly $26 million for allegedly running an invention-promotion scam.

Trump has recently taken to pushing the bogus talking point that Mueller was not confirmed by the Senate, and legal experts told INSIDER the claim is "flat out wrong" because Mueller is an "inferior officer" - not a "principal officer" who reports directly to the President - and therefore does not need to be confirmed by the Senate.

Donald Trump isn't known for his restraint on social media, but his latest tweetstorm took his rhetoric against Robert Mueller to a new level, complete with all-caps denunciations, declarations that the special counsel has "gone completely nuts", and predictions of how future generations will view the way Mueller and his "gang of Democrat thugs" have attempted to "destroy the people".

Whitaker's fired predecessor, Sessions, had formally stepped aside from any control over Mueller, so as to avoid any conflicts of interest.

In the Senate, the senior Democrat on the intelligence committee, Mark Warner, tweeted that Mueller's probe is "under serious threat of political interference from this President".
