Mueller has begun drafting final Russian Federation investigation report

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is one of 18 Democratic state attorneys general who have written to acting US Attorney General Matt Whitaker calling for him to recuse himself from overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

Donald Trump fired attorney general Jeff Sessions on Wednesday and appointed Whitaker, a former United States attorney from Iowa and Sessions' chief of staff, to be acting attorney general - a move Democrats called illegal.

In the Senate, Republican Jeff Flake of Arizona and Democrat Chris Coons of DE said they will push for a floor vote on a bipartisan bill to protect Mueller's probe.

Trump also called Ryan "very nasty" and said she "shouldn't be". The most drastic act he could take is to shut down the investigation completely, though that would risk a backlash from Congress and make it more likely Trump would be impeached by the Democratic House. "The matter of Whitaker is controversial and subject to dispute, but I think Rosenstein's recusal is not a matter of dispute".

A former high school classmate of Long also revealed that he was teased and bullied over his lazy eye, which deeply affected him. Associated Press writers Rebecca Boone in Boise, Idaho, and Christopher Weber in Thousand Oaks, contributed.

Shortly thereafter, however, it was announced that Attorney General Jeff Sessions had been forced out.

But the Senate Republican leader gave no hint of support for Whitaker as a permanent replacement. It means that Mr. Trump's installation of Matthew Whitaker as acting attorney general of the United States after forcing the resignation of Jeff Sessions is unconstitutional. In all likelihood, Whitaker will remain acting Attorney General until a new person can be confirmed to the post by the Senate, which likely won't come until February at the earliest.

Those include an op-ed in which he said Mueller would be straying outside his mandate if he investigated Trump family finances and a talk radio interview in which he maintained that there was no evidence of collusion between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign. McConnell said that's not needed because the probe will be allowed to finish.

During the rally signs said things like "Whitaker Must Recuse" and "Protect Mueller". The president then appointed Sessions' chief of staff, Matt Whitaker, to run the Justice Department on an interim basis.

Whitaker has faced pressure from Democrats to recuse himself from overseeing Mueller based on the comments, which were made before he joined the Justice Department previous year.

Speaking on ABC News' "This Week", Conway said the president chose Whitaker because he wanted to "have a continuum" when it comes to people serving in the attorney general role. House Democrats could subpoena Mueller and compel him to testify on the investigation, or subpoena the final result.

McConnell also echoed Trumps' warnings on investigations, saying: "The Democrats in the House will have to decide just how much presidential harassment they think is good strategy".

On Friday as he left for Paris, the president dismissed the argument that Whitaker's past comments might disqualify him from overseeing the special counsel.

Adding to the concerns of Democrats is Whitaker's ties to a witness in the Mueller investigation: Sam Clovis.
