Donald Trump: Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker 'a Strong Personality'

The protests late on November 8 came as Democrats in Congress sought emergency hearings into Trump's ouster of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who Trump had criticized for recusing himself and refusing to interfere with Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged Russian efforts to influence the election.

Sessions had recused himself from Mueller's investigation, leaving oversight to Deputy Attorney-general Rod Rosenstein.

"We are pleased to announce that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States".

Of the scrutiny Whitaker is facing, Trump said: "It's a shame that no matter who I put in they go after". "Frankly, Mr. Whittaker's credentials for the job are simply his personal and political loyalty to President (Donald) Trump".
