Vote results for the midterm election on November 6th

Despite a seemingly energized grassroots electorate, the Democratic Party has been viewed as a long shot to take back control of the Senate where Republicans now hold a narrow majority of 51 seats to 49 seats for Democrats. Voters scored Trump positively on the economy and for standing up "for what he believes in". Several television networks, including the president's favorite Fox News Channel, yanked a Trump campaign advertisement off the air on the eve of the election, determining that its portrayal of a murderous immigrant went too far. Following President Obama's first term, 63 House seats and six Senate seats were lost by the Democrats. That's a sure-fire formula for two years of legislative gridlock and positioning for the 2020 presidential and congressional elections.

With almost two thirds of ballots counted, Democratic state lawmaker Jennifer Wexton was ahead of Republican incumbent Barbara Comstock by 57% to 43% in their suburban northern Virginia district that Hillary Clinton won in 2016, NBC reported.

As it stands, Republicans control both the House and the Senate, which is to say that Trump should have very little problem achieving what he wants.

As to the Senate, Republicans have a much better chance of keeping control.

In the event the Democrats do win the House, Trump would be more vulnerable to impeachment - a process used by Congress members to remove a president.

The airtight House contests are scattered across the country: Among them, Democrat Abigail Spanberger is challenging Republican Rep. Dave Brat in Virginia's 7th Congressional District; Democrat Danny O'Connor and Republican Troy Balderson are rematching in Ohio's 12th Congressional District; and Democrat Harley Rouda is challenging longtime Rep. Dana Rohrabacher in California's 48th Congressional District.

New Mexico's 2nd district is another key race: Susie Lee, a Democrat, is facing Republican Danny Tarkanian for the House seat held by Democrat Jacky Rosen, who is challenging Dean Heller, and Nevada's 4th district, where GOP candidate Cresent Hardy is facing off against Democrat Steven Horsford.

Team India also suggested that BCCI should compensate the players who would miss the T20 extravagant for the World Cup. Meanwhile, Kohli is now the No 1 batsman in Tests and ODIs and hence it did not go down well with.

The loss of power will test Trump's political hold on House Republicans, most of whom had pledged their support for him lest they face the wrath of the party's core supporters, who remain in his corner. While Republicans confront serious headwinds in holding the House, the uniqueness of the contest in each of 435 House districts makes for a wide range in the potential number of seats Democrats may gain.

Defeated Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was poised to win a Senate seat from Utah.

The Democratic victory, she said, "is about restoring the Constitution's checks and balances to the Trump administration", and a check on Senate Republicans. The five-term incumbent broke with his party and voted against the Republican tax bill and the GOP's 2017 effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

"It's all fragile. Everything I told you, it can be undone and changed by Democrats if they get in", Trump told supporters during a telephone town-hall organized by his campaign before Air Force One took off for Cleveland. Donovan was the only Republican representing New York City.

The Democrats' path to the Senate was increasingly narrow, however.

Indeed, the election was in many ways a referendum on the president himself, two years after he beat most predictions and took the White House, even as he lost the popular vote.

The Republican caucuses in both chambers have become even more conservative with the loss of moderates within Trump's party, even as Democrats appear to be spoiling for a fight with Trump.
