Samantha Bee Defends Jim Acosta: We Should Be 'Ashamed' of Trump

Trump invited Acosta, a frequent foil, to ask him a question at the White House news conference, which followed his party's loss of control of the House of Representatives in Tuesday's midterm elections.

"This conduct is absolutely unacceptable", Sanders said. It is also completely disrespectful to the reporter's colleagues not to allow them an opportunity to ask a question", she said on "Trish Regan Primetime.

Acosta, 47, regularly grills Sanders at press conferences where she defends Trump's most controversial policies.

Trump and Acosta have long have a contentious relationship as the CNN reporter often asks the president questions that seemed created to illicit a reaction from him.

The video is below; the microphone grab is at the:18 mark. Yet CNN chose to double down on Acosta's tactics, proving that after three years, they don't at all understand why Trump keeps winning this game.

"You are a rude, bad person - and you shouldn't be working for CNN".

CNN released a statement after the conference saying the President's attacks on the press have "gone too far".

Press secretary Sarah Sanders says a reporter's access was suspended because he put "his hands on a young woman".

"President for not supporting a free press in the midst of him taking 68 questions from 35 different reporters".

Sanders said that Acosta had been barred from the White House because of his "unacceptable" behavior on Wednesday afternoon.

"Well I'm not a fan of yours either", Trump replied.

To some of his critics, not only does the move impose restrictions on the media trying to do its job, the reason given is a brazen example of the White House lying in plain sight.

"History will see what a good job we did in getting people over the finish line", Trump said, noting that nine of the 11 candidates for whom he campaigned in the last week were victorious.

Acosta had been questioning Trump about his claim that a caravan of migrants posed a threat to the USA when the President turned on the journalist.

Acosta responded that Sanders' description of events was "a lie". Acosta refused. Trump backed away from his podium and briefly paced the stage.

Other media outlets and correspondents have spoken out in support of CNN and its reporter.

When NBC reporter Peter Alexander took the mic for the next question, he defended Mr Acosta as a "diligent reporter" - earning Mr Trump's ire.

In the wake of the results, Trump held a 90-minute press conference marked by hostility.

Mr Trump pushed back aggressively, directing his criticism at the media, and particularly at CNN.
