Liverpool's group blown wide open after Red Star defeat

Red Star Belgrade secured their first-ever Uefa Champions League group stage win after two goals from towering striker Milan Pavkov helped the Serbian side to a memorable 2-0 home victory over a subdued Liverpool in Group C on Tuesday.

There is a lot at stake for Red Star Belgrade heading into Tuesday night's game, as they will be eliminated from Europe's elite club competition if they lose to Liverpool FC and Napoli win at home against Paris Saint-Germain.

This season Jurgen Klopp's side's priority is the Premier League, where they've started brilliantly, but they still have designs on trying to better their surprising run from last season.

"We had the first big chance with Daniel (Sturridge), a very big one".

It was no more than Red Star deserved after the opening 20 minutes. So they deserved the three points.

Harvick dueled Ryan Blaney late in the race, with Blaney taking the lead for about seven laps after a restart on Lap 311. Jimmie Johnson was incorrectly sent to the back of the field moments before the race began.

A loss to French champions PSG would leave them facing a nail-biting shoot-out with Napoli and Liverpool midfielder Lallana knows his team have no excuses for their predicament.

"We lost it because they went 1-0 up then 2-0 up".

"We had chances but we weren't ruthless enough, weren't patient enough".

"We played well and managed to shut them out".

Adam Lallana nearly got Liverpool back in the game moments later but his header was deflected just wide, and Sturridge then fired wide from just inside the box. They scored a goal and then completely out of the blue they scored a second and the atmosphere completely changed.

"Of course, we have to", he said.

Speaking of the Switzerland international's situation, the manager said, "We have heard and read the speculation and talk about what kind of reception Shaq would receive and although we have no idea what would happen, we want to go there and be focused 100 per cent on football and not have to think about anything else, that's all".

The visitors began to mount some real pressure on the Red Star goal during the final exchanges, but they were unable to carve out anything of note in front of goal.
