Attorney General Jeff Sessions submits resignation letter

President Trump has abruptly announced on Twitter that Jeff Sessions is no longer the U.S. attorney general.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein took over supervision of the Russian Federation investigation and in May 2017 appointed Mr Mueller as the Justice Department's special counsel to take over the FBI's Russian Federation probe after Mr Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.

'He will serve our Country well.

"So I could see a scenario where Jeff Sessions is replaced with a recess appointment and that attorney general doesn't fire Bob Mueller, but he just reduces his budget to so low that his investigation grinds to nearly a halt", Whitaker said during an interview with CNN in July 2017. "A permanent replacement will be nominated at a later date", he concluded.

Peterman had some absolutely atrocious numbers at the half: Two INTs, a pick-six, 75 passing yards, no TDs, and trailing 28-0. The only disappointment, perhaps, was becoming Buffalo's first opponent in three weeks to give up a Bills touchdown.

Earlier, at a White House news conference, Trump said the Mueller investigation was not good for the United States.

Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer has warned "any attorney-general ... should not be able to be able to interfere in the Mueller investigation in any way".

However, he indicated in a resignation letter that he had been pushed from the role.

Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland says it is not acceptable if President Donald Trump requested Sessions' resignation to interfere with the special counsel investigation into Russian election interference and possible coordination with Trump associates. "And while there are good days and bad days in any job, one thing has been clear to me, it is a privilege to serve one's country in law enforcement to wake up each morning and fight the fight for the rule of law".

Mr Sessions was the first USA senator to endorse Mr Trump for president.

Whitaker, who will now oversee the Mueller investigation, wrote an op-ed for in August, 2017, arguing the Mueller would be going too far if he were investigating Trump's finances. Mr Trump wrote on Wednesday. Trump tweeted Monday that "investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought to a well publicized charge, just ahead of the Mid-Terms, by the Jeff Sessions Justice Department".

But there has also been speculation Mr Trump could try to kill or suppress the 18 month-old probe, pressing his view that Mr Mueller leads a team staffed by Democrats operating under an illegal mandate.
