Rafael Nadal withdraws from ATP Finals to undergo ankle surgery

Novak Djokovic is back at No. 1 in the ATP rankings after a two-year absence - and the first man in almost two decades to rise to the top spot after being outside the top 20 in the same season.

Nadal issued a statement on social media this afternoon: "It has been a hard year - very good on a tennis level when I have been able to play and, at the same time, very bad as far as injuries are concerned".

It ended as it started for Rafael Nadal. Play in London begins next Sunday.

Armenian Karen Khachanov, a rising star in the world of Tennis from Russian Federation, defeated incoming world champion Novak Djokovic to win his first Masters 1000 title at the Paris Masters, reported the BBC.

The left-hander excels on the dirt and has won a staggering 11 French Open titles. But I also do realize I'm pretty fortunate this year in getting in.

Djokovic has also not been afraid to take chances and innovate his game, bringing in Boris Becker as part of his coaching team for the start of the 2014 season, although he has since reunited with long-time mentor Marian Vajda.

It looks like the best possible draw for Federer, who has added another remarkable year, winning yet another Grand Slam in Australia.
