Russia's fighter jet intercepts United States aircraft over Black Sea

A Russian Su-27 fighter jet intercepted a U.S.

"This interaction was determined to be unsafe due to the SU-27 conducting a high speed pass directly in front of the mission aircraft, which put our pilots and crew at risk".

Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon said the jet flew in front of plane then activated its afterburners creating more turbulence, and then matrulyde a second pass by the U.S. aircraft.

Whether the USA military labels an air encounter is unsafe or unprofessional has less to do with the distances between aircraft and more with the behavior of the pilots intercepting the aircraft.

Pahon said there was no communication between the two aircraft throughout the 25-minute incident.

On Nov. 5, 2018, a U.S. EP-3 Aries aircraft flying in worldwide airspace over the Black Sea was intercepted by a Russian SU-27.

The Russian Ministry of Defense denied the Navy's claims that the Su-27 intercepted the EP-3 in an unsafe manner.

In a statement, the U.S. Navy said their plane had to apply its afterburner after the first pass and faced turbulence and vibrations.

And in Syria in December, US F-22s fired warning flares at two Russian SU-25 planes that, according to US officials, crossed the country's de-confliction line.

The U.S. Navy slammed the Russian aircraft's actions as "irresponsible".

The U.S. reconnaissance aircraft was spotted approaching Russia's airspace at around 10:00 a.m. Moscow time (0700 GMT) and was immediately identified by the Su-27 fighter jet "at a safe distance", Russian news agencies reported, citing a defense ministry statement.

At least six US Air Force spy planes conducted a number of flights along Russia's borders on November 5.

United States reconnaissance planes are often taking a peek over Russian borders, unsurprisingly triggering the country's air force that makes sure the border is not crossed.
