President Maithripala Sirisena fired Ranil Wickremesinghe as prime minister and named Rajapaksa in a surprise move last week that has drawn criticism from political parties and the worldwide community.

Rajapaksa's party dismissed the allegation.

The Tamil party's 15 votes could give Wickremesinghe's camp a decisive edge over Rajapaksa.

The Sri Lankan political crisis is therefore much more geopolitically pertinent than many might think. The IDU also demands that the Parliament of Sri Lanka be reconvened to allow the democratically elected representatives of the Sri Lankan people to perform their duties.

S Vilenthiriyan, one of the TNA legislators from the eastern province, has extended his support to Rajapaksa. The former Prime Minister, Mr D. M.Jayaratne left the office accepting the constitutional stand of the President.

Sri Lanka's main Tamil party, Tamil national Alliance (TNA) has chose to support the no-confidence motion brought by the United National party against new Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. He is credited with ending a 25-year civil war.
