Software bug causes Pixel 3 XL to gain a second notch

With the Google Pixel 3 on-sale in Australia on Thursday and a growing list of issues (all pretty much fixable with software), a Maintenance Release can't come soon enough. The Pixel 3 XL was already chided at launch for its large notch, which takes up a good chunk of the screen.

Multiple users, including myself, have come across a bug that causes a side notch to appear on the Google Pixel 3 XL.

Over $600,000 raised in Orlando to fight breast cancer
She was happy to celebrate the 20 anniversary of her breast cancer awareness efforts. After treatment, she was "cancer-free" for almost seven years.

The phantom notch bug has affected several users who posted pictures of the weird glitch on Twitter. Android Police suspects that it may have something to do with screen rotation and the phone forgetting that the notch is not supposed to be at the top while in landscape mode, and it does seem like a possible explanation.

The issue apparently goes away after restarting the device or diving into the developer settings.

Michael D Higgins re-elected Irish President in landslide victory
This latest vote follows a May referendum when citizens overturned a constitutional abortion ban by a landslide 66 percent. He had promised to serve only one term but the 77-year-old will now continue residing in Aras an Uachtarain until 2025.

At the beginning of August, Google outlined some guidelines mostly concerning notches. Reportedly, the camera app of the Pixel phone wasn't saving the photos in the gallery.

Pixel 3 XL has been in the limelight for some wrong reasons lately.

Several killed in USA shooting near Pittsburgh synagogue
After the suspect was apprehended and taken to a hospital, Hissrich said, there was no longer an active threat to the community. It was not immediately known how many people had been shot, whether there were any fatalities or what the shooter's motive was.

The Pixel 3 XL comes with the option to add an extra notch at the bottom of the screen for symmetry, but the sideways notch is not an intended feature. Still annoying, but knowing that Google is aware, and that a fix is coming soon, is reassuring.
