If convicted, Alexander could face up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. A lawyer representing Alexander could not be reached for comment late Monday.

The woman said she fell asleep shortly after takeoff and woke up when she felt Alexander's hand grab her right breast. She initially brushed it off as an accident, but it happened again 30 minutes later.

Alexander told investigators that he slept for most of the flight. He "could not specifically recall getting into his backpack", which was stowed under the seat in front of him, according to the complaint. "Our reports indicate that during the flight, the crew reseated at least one customer onboard", Southwest told TIME. Southwest referred questions to authorities.

A Florida man aboard a Southwest Airlines flight was detained on Sunday for allegedly groping a female passenger.

Alexander remains in custody pending a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
