Child identified after video shows Houston-area woman abandoning boy on doorstep

Child identified after video shows Houston-area woman abandoning boy on doorstep

The surveillance video shows the woman running to the front door of the Houston-area home with the boy, ringing the doorbell and then running off to her auto.

The woman then knocked on the door before turning around and running away, leaving the boy behind at the doorstep.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, abandonment charges will likely be pressed against the woman, who is not the mother of the child, reported KXXV.

A friend of the child's mother was supposed to drop the child off with the father in the afternoon, but the father had left after the child didn't arrive, Lt. Scott Spencer said in a statement Thursday. "That is a felony charge", Spencer said.

The child was put in the custody of Child Protective Services until the child can be reunited with family members. Instead, she asked a friend to drop her boy off. "It was very alarming and very disturbing and my heart was hurting for the child".

Officials with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Texas confirmed the identity of the boy who was seen in a video being left at a woman's doorstep.

Reporters who were in the neighborhood Thursday spoke to a man who identified himself as the boy's father after recognizing his child from the doorbell video. The woman is then seen driving off in a vehicle as the child continued to watch her leave.

The person who lives in the house where the unknown woman took the boy said they didn't know who the adult or child was. The entire incident took 23 seconds.
