Novak Djokovic wins Shangai Masters

Seeded second, Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic captured his fourth ATP Shanghai Masters title here on Sunday with a commanding straight-sets victory (6-3, 6-4) over No. 13 seed Borna Coric in the final.

Shanghai: Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, who crashed out of the ongoing Shanghai Masters after losing to Borna Coric of Germany in their semi-final match, has said that he is "actually happy" with his performance as he is playing well on the court.

With the win, Djokovic replaces Roger Federer as world No.2.

The Serb grabbed the opening set with a hold to love, having dropped just four points on his serve overall.

Coric again battled well in the second set and saved three match points at 5-4, with Djokovic uncharacteristically smashing an overhead volley wide. After breaking through for his first title of the year at Wimbledon, the Serb hasn't looked back, and is now in the race to dethrone Rafael Nadal for the year-end No. 1 ranking.

"Obviously the last three, four months have been terrific for me", Djokovic said.

Djokovic, who had already secured the world No. 2 spot by reaching the final round here in Shanghai, had said on Saturday that his goal was to finish the year as world No. 1 and dethrone Nadal, who did not travel to China and continues to recover from injury, reports Efe news.

Djokovic is most renown for his incredible defensive skills but he has shown another side to his game this week by going the whole tournament without being broken.

The Atlético Madrid striker then kept his cool to convert a somewhat controversially awarded penalty with 10 minutes left.

"It's phenomenal, I'm very proud of it", Djokovic told the ATP website. "I enjoyed a lot on and off the court", said Djokovic, who did not lose a service game in the entire tournament, "this has not happened too many times in my career", he added. I thought I was playing actually really well, which is in that moment not good because if I play bad, okay, I know I need to start playing better, need to change something.

If the two players meet in the final, the equation is simple: the victor takes it all.

This pattern continued to the semifinals, in which a single break in both sets gave Coric victory over Federer and Djokovic dispatched Alexander Zverev in under one hour.

"I found it and I'm just trying to hold on to it as long as I can".

He said: "The one thing about the players, I feel as if they want to play for their country and that's really, really important". We can't show you the video, but click through here to see him in full flow and to read about how Reds' fans are going nuts.
