Seattle win big in NFL's Wembley showdown

Seattle win big in NFL's Wembley showdown

The Seahawks felt right at home in their first regular season game outside of North America, blasting the Oakland Raiders, 27-3, Sunday afternoon at London's Wembley Stadium.

Playing in London for the first time in team history, Seattle established the run and controlled the line of scrimmage early, handing off to running backs Chris Carson and Mike Davis on seven straight plays after receiving the opening kickoff. Los Angeles took the lead early in the fourth quarter, but the Seahawks failed to score again after a pair of penalties.

Jaron Brown, David Moore and Tyler Lockett each got on the end of Wilson's passes to the end-zone with long-time Raider Sebastian Janikowski booting the extra points as well as two field goals.

The Seahawks punted on their second series of the day, and the defense appeared to get a big stop on second-and-14 for Oakland late in the frame, but Frank Clark's sack of Oakland quarterback Derek Carr was nullified for defensive holding on Shaquill Griffin. "[J.R.] Sweezy has been a great addition for us and of course [Germain] Ifedi is doing well too so, I'm fired up about it".

But Reverend Lee's message is a powerful admonishment, coming from a southerner and a descendent of the general himself. But he made the statement in the context of talking about how hard it was for President Abraham Lincoln to defeat him.

Oakland's rush defense may be bad, but Seattle's is even worse - the Seahawks are one of just four teams allowing more yards per game on the ground.

But this much is clear - the Raiders should have "Construction Zone" signs hanging all over the place as they try to navigate through a messy rebuild and a 1-5 start in Gruden's return to Oakland.

"Seahawks to win and over 48.5 points to be scored is now at 5/2 from 11/5, with a Seattle win by 7-12 points is now 6/1 from 5/1". It was just the second time in his career in which he was sacked at least six times. Their other two games, one in Mexico City, the other in London, saw the Raiders get trashed by the Miami Dolphins (London, 2014) and the New England Patriots (Mexico City, 2017).

With the victory, the Seahawks climbed back to.500, inching itself within half a game of a playoff spot, a far superior position in comparison to the last-place Raiders.

"We lost, but I've got a handsome wife I get to go home to, boy", Irvin said.

Towards the end, he played out a dramatic over to enable Shaw, India's teenage batting sensation, to hit the winning runs. He also became only the third Indian paceman after Kapil Dev and Javagal Srinath to claim 10 wickets in a home Test.

"We lost some men today, and hopefully they can heal up. we know we have a ways to go here", Gruden said.

For each team, a loss would do serious damage to their playoff hopes, which is tough to say considering it is only Week 6.

"Any time you catch a touchdown (pass), I don't think you're anxious about what happens after", Brown said.

Seattle sits at a 2-3 record while coming off of a 33-31 loss to the Rams. He's always been a superstar, so the more times he can get the football, the better.

Better times may yet still be in front of the Seahawks, as linebacker K.J. Wright, running back J.D. McKissic and tight end Ed Dickson could return when Seattle plays at Detroit in two weeks.
