Garcia takes Tianjin trophy over Pliskova for first title of 2018

Caroline Garcia won her first title of the year as the French player defeated Karolina Pliskova to edge a nervy Tianjin Open final on Sunday.

The 18-year-old dropped just three games as she overcame her Chinese opponent with a 6-2 6-1 victory in one hour and five minutes.

In the final she will play Italian fifth seed Camila Giorgi, who was a 6-3 6-4 victor over Alison van Uytvanck. The former world No.1 gifted a couple of errors to give Garcia, who recorded 32 wins to 7 defeats after winning the first set at WTA level this season, the first break to 2-0 in the second set.
