The second-seeded Djokovic has won all four Shanghai finals he's contested in his career (2012, 2013, 2015 and 2018). I thought I was playing actually really well, which is in that moment not good because if I play bad, okay, I know I need to start playing better, need to change something.

He is on a 17-match winning streak and is 26-1 in matches played since the start of Wimbledon.

The 21-year-old produced a serving masterclass to deny his opponent any break points in the 73-minute triumph.

The second set followed a similar pattern and, while Coric improved, he was unable to deny Djokovic a fourth Shanghai Masters title.

Federer netted another backhand to concede a 4-2 deficit before Coric secured the first set with a ruthless sequence of serves.

Djokovic's win over Zverev and Federer's demise guaranteed Djokovic will move up from No. 3 to No. 2 in the world rankings on Monday, which has him swapping positions with Federer, but still trailing Rafael Nadal.

Zverev, now under the tutelage of Ivan Lendl, said he is pleased with his overall progress, even if a maiden Grand Slam remains elusive.

"I don't think I played a match where I didn't get broken, so that's something a bit more unusual for me".

"Last year was the first time I kind of broke through to the top 10 and was a top-five player".

Despite the effort, Djokovic was quick to step in and provide a quick Chinese lesson for the young gun, prompting him to say "Wo Ai Ni" to the crowd.
