World’s longest non-stop flight arrives in U.S. from Singapore

World’s longest non-stop flight arrives in U.S. from Singapore

The first new non-stop flight between Singapore and NY departed Changi International Airport on 11 October 2018 at 2337hrs (SIN time) and arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport 17 hours and 52 minutes later. In the epic run, the Singapore Airlines flight will replace Qatar Airways' Doha to Auckland route as the world's longest commercial flight. Mood lighting will also be used throughout the flight to help encourage sleep when needed and adjusting to new time zones, helping to combat jet lag.

The flight is scheduled for 11:35pm Singapore time (11:35am in New York) on October 11 and is said to land the following day at 6am in NY (6pm Singapore).

While airlines are typically able to charge more for non-stop flights, Singapore Airlines is offering initial fares from as low as $S1438 (34,159 Baht) return for premium economy from Singapore to Newark. During that time, officials at Airbus will be keeping a close eye on the ultra-long range plane.

"I'm a little anxious, I wonder what I'm going to do for 18 hours and 30 minutes" on the plane, 52-year-old Peggy Ang, a computer company executive, admitted before boarding.

Death toll rises to six in wake of Hurricane Michael
WJHG news crews got a first look at the damage Hurricane Michael left behind in Panama City; the city they love and call home. The imagery shows the near total destruction of Mexico Beach and heavy damage to nearby Tyndall Air Force Base .

Ahead of the take-off, the airline told the BBC that business class seats for the flight were fully booked, and there were "a very limited number" of premium economy seats left. Such flight was stopped operating in 2013. Qantas Airlines launched a 17-hour non-stop service between Perth and London - a distance of almost 15,000 kilometers - earlier this year.

Long-haul flights half way across the globe are making a comeback even with oil prices close to their highest in four years.

If you want to fly the new route yourself, airfares at time of writing started at $1,017 one-way in premium economy, or $1,623 round-trip.

The 16,700-kilometer (10,400 mile) journey between the Asian hub and the Big Apple will take just under 19 hours, topping the existing long-haul flights by a distance.

The new Airbus A350-900ULR it's using now has only two engines and is goes a lot further on the same fuel.

"We really are entering a new era of travel". "The A350-900ULR is an aircraft that levels the playing field and will let us connect many more points within the Singapore on a nonstop basis".

The Singapore Airlines Flight SQ22 is configured to carry 161 passengers - 67 in business class and 94 in premium economy. The easiest way to do so is to create a Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer frequent flier account. Back then, Singapore Airlines operated it using an all-business-class Airbus A340-500.

The newspaper's account also did not elaborate on how the Apple Watch synced the information to both the phone and iCloud account. US President Donald Trump called Khashoggi's suspected killing "a awful thing", but stopped short of assigning blame.
