Investigation into possible match fixing in PSG's game vs. Red Star Belgrade

French authorities have opened an investiagation into possible match fixing in the UEFA Champions League tie between Paris Saint Germain and Red Star Belgrade, which ended 6-1 in favour of the Ligue 1 side.

According to French outlet L'Equipe, French authorities have began looking into the outcome of the contest after a tip off by UEFA.

However, a report from L'Equipe details allegations UEFA received of match-fixing by Red Star in which a senior member of the Serbian club, with others, meant to place a bet of several million euros on the team to lose by five goals.

"It was with the greatest stupefaction that PSG discovered this Friday an article on the L'Equipe website regarding suspicions of match-fixing concerning the UEFA Champions League game with Red Star Belgrade on 3 October and suspicions regarding the alleged actions of bettors from Serbia", PSG said in a statement responding to the report.

PSG and Red Star are in Group C, along with Liverpool and Napoli, but there is now a cloud of suspicion hanging over the game played between the pair, a game which PSG won 6-1.

Red Star have dismissed the allegation absolutely.

"Today's technologies and other mechanisms are so improved that it is basically impossible to leave this case unsolved".

When approached for comment regarding the match-fixing allegations, Uefa told The Independent: "Uefa never comments on potential, or the existence of, investigations into alleged match-fixing as to not compromise the process of such investigations".
