You shall not patch! Microsoft has blocked the new Windows 10 update

Last week, Microsoft began rolling out the October 2018 Update to Windows 10, bringing a whole slew of new features and app upgrades.

After an April 2018 update, some users reported that they had empty, duplicate KFR folders, but the method used by version 1809 to clean up those useless folders could sometimes result in Windows deleting everything in a directory that actually contained files.

Microsoft puts Windows 10 update on hold after file deletion reports

Microsoft released the Windows 10 October 2018 Update to "seekers" on October 2 during its Surface event, completely skipping the Release Preview ring of the Windows Insiders program.

Microsoft missed the bug despite users filing reports in its Feedback Hub, since the number of total reports of file deletion was too low to trigger a quicker response by its engineers. The root cause of this issue, as it turns out, is the "Known Folder Redirection" feature that when enabled, moved files from folders such as Documents, Pictures, Desktop, Camera Roll, Screenshots Videos a new folder, but was deleted from either folders due to some changes made to the logic from the feedback received from Insiders. "Based on feedback from users, we introduced code in the October 2018 Update to remove these empty, duplicate known folders".

Wozniacki swats aside Sevastova to wear Beijing crown
Wozniacki claimed her first China Open title in 2010 when she jumped to top the WTA rankings for the first time. Unseeded Sevastova needed one hour and 31 minutes to win and reach the final, the biggest in her career.

Furthermore, an early buggy version of the OneDrive client with autosave turned on didn't move files in users Documents and Pictures folders from the old location to the new one.

If you installed the update and were stunned to find your photos wiped, Microsoft says you should "minimize your use of the affected device" and immediately call the company for help directly at 1-800-MICROSOFT. However, it is holding back on releasing the new operating system generally until further testing is completed. If there are still files in the "Documents" folder then you're not affected by the issue, according to another tweet from Sarkar. "We have added an ability for users to also provide an indication of impact and severity when filing User Initiated Feedback".

Saudi Arabia to let Turkey search consulate over missing journalist
But it was not immediately clear whether Turkish officials were granted access to the consulate after Monday's request. Saudi officials insist he left the building alive but have provided no proof that he did so.

Microsoft says that the new Windows 10 release is available to Windows Insiders for the time being, with a broad rollout to follow, assuming there won't be any issues with the new version.

For those impacted by the file deletion bug, Microsoft Support is trying to recover data for users who may have experienced related data loss. Still, if you lost any personal data after proceeding, be aware that Microsoft will offer free customer support online and at its retail stores.

In order to play Blackout before the full installation is complete, select "Update to Latest Version" when the prompt appears. The Blackout battle royale game mode will apparently be fully playable once 16-20 GB of the install is completed.
