'Venom' sets October record with US$80M; 'Star Is Born' soars

Superhero blockbuster "Venom" saved the day at the North American box office this weekend, pulling in an estimated $80 million in ticket sales, industry tracker Exhibitor Relations reported Sunday.

Considering Venom was made on a budget of only $100 million, it's well on its way to be considered a success for Sony, which bodes very well for the planned sequel, which will introduce us to Venom's psychotic spawn, Carnage.
