Toyota recalls 2.4 million Prius and Auris hybrids over stalling

This could cause the vehicle to stall, which could increase the risk of a crash when driving at high speeds.

Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling more than 2 million of its iconic Prius hybrids globally on the risk that a software malfunction could end in a crash.

It affects about 1.25 million vehicles sold in Japan, 830,000 vehicles in North America, and 290,000 vehicles sold in Europe.

Auto owners of Prius, Prius + and Auris hybrid models are advised to ensure the software on their vehicle is updated - but drivers do not need to do anything just yet.

Aston Villa sack manager Steve Bruce after dismal start to season
Villa are looking for a new manager after sacking Steve Bruce , who was shown the door after a poor start to the season. Other favourites for the post include Brentford manager Dean Smith, Sam Allardyce, Thierry Henry and Roberto Martinez.

The recall applies to some Toyota Prius and Auris hybrids made from October 2008 to November 2014.

The company said Friday that in rare cases the vehicles might fail to enter a "fail-safe" driving mode, lose power and stall.

The recall is meant to address situations in which the failure of a specific component, coupled with hard acceleration, could cause the vehicle to lose power rather than enter a failsafe driving mode.

A Toyota UK spokesman said owners of the affected vehicles would be notified.

Canada opened its dairy market. But by how much?
But it could seriously upend markets in Canada . "We weren't at the table or maybe the deal would have been a little different". Perth made up 11.45 per cent of last year's milk production in Ontario while Oxford led the way with just over 12 per cent.

Toyota said the cars involved in the recall had already been involved in previous recalls in 2014 and 2015, but: "the remedy conducted then did not anticipate the new condition identified in this recall".

When asked if any crashes had been reported because of the issue, Toyota offered no comment.

Should this occur, the auto could lose power and stall, although functions such as the power steering, brakes and lights would still work.

The software will be updated for all involved vehicles at no charge to the owner.
