North Korea's Kim agrees to 'dismantle' key missile test sites

North Korea agreed to dismantle a key missile test site under the watch of worldwide inspectors and take other steps toward denuclearisation, according to a joint statement signed by Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in in Pyongyang.

After a day of ceremonials and lunch, the two leaders held a two-hour summit meeting, with talks scheduled to continue tomorrow.

The North Korean leader would likely visit Seoul later this year, Mr Moon said.

The second day of summit talks took place Wednesday at Baekhwawon state guesthouse in Pyongyang, North Korea.

"In the meantime there will be no Rocket or Nuclear testing".

North and South Korea on Wednesday agreed to a series of measures they claim could end the threat of nuclear war on the peninsula.

US President Donald Trump welcomed developments on Wednesday at an inter-Korean summit in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang as "very exciting".

Mr. Kim pledged to work toward the "complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula" during his first encounter with Mr. Moon, and at his summit with Mr. Trump in June.

They also agreed to withdraw 11 guard posts from the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) by December and to establish a no-fly zone above the military demarcation line that bisects the two Koreas that will apply to planes, helicopters and drones.

US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert stated on Tuesday that Washington hopes the latest inter-Korean summit will bring about "meaningful, verifiable steps towards the denuclearisation of North Korea" and branded it a "historic opportunity".

They agreed that Kim would visit the South in the near future.

"North-South relations have now entered a new era", President Moon tweeted earlier.

"While Moon has expressed his desire to agree on a concrete plan on denuclearisation, we believe that the two nations still differ on this concept", said Ms Anwita Basu, an analyst at the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Also, the countries will reopen their joint industrial park in the North's border town of Kaesong and tourism programs to the North's Mount Kumgang as soon as "conditions are met", the agreement said.

United States officials involved in the latest negotiations have said North Korea has refused to even start discussions about defining denuclearisation.
