Cleveland Browns to release Josh Gordon

On Saturday, the Browns announced wide receiver Josh Gordon would be released following the team's Week 2 Game Sunday in New Orleans. He has been suspended multiple times for violating the league's substance abuse policy, missing the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons before returning previous year.

We don't know the official word yet, but the Browns clearly reached the end of their rope with Gordon, who is one of the most talented receivers in the National Football League but has struggled with his sobriety and been a thorn in the Browns' side after the team went above and beyond to help him recover. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Gordon suffered the injury during a promotional shoot.

No specifics were given over the reasoning behind Gordon's departure, but the 27 -year-old thanked the city of Cleveland following the news via an Instagram story.

The Browns shocked the NFL Saturday when they announced they meant to release the brilliant but troubled Gordon amid reports that he injured his hamstring at a promo shoot and was "not himself" when he showed up to team facilities. This place will always feel like home to me.

Once that happens, Gordon will leave behind a very complicated legacy in Cleveland.

Gordon caught the game-tying touchdown for the Browns in last week's game against the Steelers.

Gordon started the opener despite coach Hue Jackson saying he wouldn't be on the field for the first snap as punishment for missing camp.

The Browns selected Gordon in the 2012 supplemental draft despite his background of drug use in college at Baylor.
