The country's No. 2 power company said Wednesday that it's anticipating 1 million to 3 million homes and businesses could lose power for lengthy periods, depending on the storm's track.

Florence is now 485 miles from Wilmington, North Carolina. Now, this is still a few days away but we do have weather warnings in place at the moment.

With Hurricane Florence, numerous coastline will see water levels from the storm surge rise over 3 feet, with some families seeing over 9 feet of water near their homes.

At 11 a.m., the center of the system was about 190 miles east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica. It came ashore along a mostly boarded-up, emptied-out stretch of coastline.

As of Thursday morning, forecast models showed the storm bringing more rain than originally thought - officials now predict 35 inches of rain will fall in a two-day period as Florence, now a Category 2 storm with 110 miles per hour sustained winds, will stall over Wilmington after making landfall early Friday morning.

But it was clear that this was really about the water, not the wind. Some regions are expected to receive more than 20 inches of rain from the hurricane and its giant knot of storm clouds. Flash flooding is going to be a big issue soon - certainly catastrophic.

Meanwhile, the projections for rain are growing, adding to growing concerns about flooding across the two states: Coastal North Carolina now expects 20-30 inches, with isolated areas of 40 inches projected in SC. A steady stream of vehicles filled with people and belongings is moving inland.

Hurricane Warnings are in effect from the South Santee River in SC to Duck, North Carolina. That's enough to fill the Chesapeake Bay or cover the entire state of Texas with almost 4 inches (10 centimeters) of water, he calculated.

CNN meteorologist Taylor Ward said the main threat will be flooding, with predictions of 5 to 10 inches, with isolated totals of 15 inches.

Some predictions cautioned not to rule out the possibility of Isaac restrengthening as it passes over the warm western Caribbean waters into the equally warm Gulf of Mexico.
