Passengers on 2 flights from Europe arrive sick in Philly

Health authorities said they were exercising "an abundance of caution" at Philadelphia's airport following the NY scare.

In a statement, Emirates confirmed that "about 10 passengers" on the Dubai to NY flight had become ill, adding that the appearance of health authorities at the scene was "a precaution".

Shortly after noon, all the passengers had disembarked the plane.

Eric Phillips, a spokesman for Mayor Bill de Blasio, tweeted on Wednesday morning that the flight had stopped in Mecca, which is now experiencing a flu outbreak.

Sloane Stephens wilts in straight sets in sweltering U.S. Open quarterfinals
Sevastova , who retired in 2013 because of injuries and returned almost two years later, advanced to her first Slam semifinal. Williams had trailed 4-2 in the first set but ran out a comfortable 6-4 6-3 victor on Tuesday night.

The New York Police Department's Counterterrorism Bureau said they were monitoring what appears to be a "medical situation" at the airport.

News broke on Wednesday that an Emirates flight was quarantined at JFK Airport, and it turns out Vanilla Ice was among those onboard.

However, the CDC said in a statement that about "100 people complained of feeling sick on Emirates Flight 521, and that their symptoms included cough and fever".

A spokesman for Mayor Bill de Blasio said 10 people were hospitalized and another eight were being treated at the airport.

NY plane quarantined amid reports of ill passengers
It's unclear how long the plane will remain under quarantine for, or when the rest of the passengers will be allowed to leave. Larry Coben, a passenger on the plane, posted pictures on Twitter of unaffected passengers being checked as they disembarked.

"When they were standing in line to board, people were coughing", she said.

Pictures posted on social media showed ambulances lined up on the tarmac next to the A380, the largest passenger airliner in the world. She said members of the crews had not contacted medical personnel ahead of landing to alert them of sick passengers on board.

By around noon ET, 432 passengers had been cleared and allowed to go to the customs area, according to Phillips.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating two flights where about a dozen passengers fell ill arriving at the Philadelphia International Airport on September 6. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the estimated number was about 100.
