Perseids 2018: Where and how to watch the dazzling meteor shower

Experts offer some tips to get the most out of nature's fireworks: Since Perseid meteors can be seen from any direction in the sky, viewers should pick out a dark patch of sky free of light pollution and wait for the meteors to appear. Three years later, an Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaperelli identified the comet as the origin of the Perseid meteor shower.

"This year, we'll be lucky the moon won't be shining most of the night", Bjerke said.

Perseids meteor shower 2018: What is it? The showers are active from July 14 to Aug. 24, but peaks in mid-August.

However, according to NASA, the night before August 11-12, will also be stunning.

Manafort Trial Defense Chips Away at Credibility of Star Witness Gates
Manafort directed him not to report the existence of offshore bank accounts that prosecutors allege were used to hide millions of. His defence team is seeking to pin the blame on Gates, who they say was responsible for day-to-day operations of the business.

Every summer, Earth ploughs through this thick trail (this year, it entered the trail on July 17, and it will exit on August 24), allowing some of the comet's ancient debris to enter and burn up in our planet's atmosphere. When it last passed by in 1992, this comet left a trail of stony grit, NASA reported.

The next time it will pass is 2126. The comet only orbits the sun once every 133 years, but the debris can be seen every year in the summer months.

But the most spectacular long-lasting meteors, known as "Earthgrazers", can be seen when the radiant is still low above the horizon.

Why is it considered the best of the year?

Malaysia's former PM Najib to be charged with money laundering
This was followed by a warrant of arrest issued by Malaysia's High court on Monday that led to the handover, he said. Those assets include the 300-foot (90-metre) yacht bought by Low, who was an unofficial adviser to 1MDB.

With a new moon providing an extra-dark backdrop to the spectacle, the shooting stars will be brighter than ever. In the evening, starting around 10 p.m., you'll see fewer meteors, but those that do appear will be longer-lasting and tend to have longer tails.

The Perseid meteor shower is happening and Space.com says the shower will peak during overnight hours as Aug. 11 turns into Aug. 12 and again overnight on Aug. 12-13.

The meteors strike our atmosphere at around 134,000 miles per hour and create vivid streaks of light when they burn up. If the night is clear and you keep your eyes peeled, you should be able to see the showers at any point at night.

Perhaps you might remember an incredible meteor show back in the early 1990s? It's recommended you find a dark sky in a rural area away from artificial lighting.
