Margot Kidder's Death Ruled Suicidal Overdose

TMZ reports that the Park County Coroner claims she had taken drugs and alcohol as a way of ending her life prematurely.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Margot Kidder's death has officially been ruled as a suicide.

Margot Kidder, who played Louis Lane in four Superman movies during the 70s and 80s died by suicide, after coroners reached a cause of death following her passing in May.

A joint statement from the coroner's office and her family urged "those suffering from mental illnesses, addiction and/or suicidal thoughts to seek appropriate counselling and treatment".

Kidder's daughter said she knew her mother died by suicide the moment authorities took her to Kidder's home.

Kidder struggled with mental illness through a good part of her life, a situation that was made worse by a 1990 auto crash that left her in debt and led to her using a wheelchair for nearly two years.

Kidder's longtime friend, Joan Kesich, who found her body, called the actress and activist "fearless". She believes it is important to be open and honest about suicide and not hide it.

As it was previously reported, the police discovered Margot passed away on the 13th of May in her home in Livingston.

Kidder was working until just prior to her death. The star is survived by her 41-year-old daughter Maggie, whom she had with her first husband. She wants to avoid any "cloud of shame".

"It's a very unique sort of grief and pain", McGuane said.

Kidder struggled with mental illness for a big chunk of her life, with events getting worse following a vehicle accident in 1990 that left her in debt and led her to using a wheelchair.

She later appeared in small films and television shows until 2017, including R.L. Stine's the Haunting Hour.
