German couple convicted of rape, online sale of young son

In a case that has horrified Germany, a mother and her partner have been convicted of the repeated rape of her young boy, and for selling him for sex on the internet.

The 48-year-old woman, who has been identified only as Berrin line with German privacy rules, was sentenced to 12½ years in prison.

The pair and six others were arrested last September.

On Monday, the same German court sentenced a Spanish pedophile, Javier Gonzalez Diaz, to 10 years behind bars for paying the parents to sexually abuse the same boy over and over again.

Their sentences fell short of what prosecutors had demanded - 14 years and six months for Taha and 13 years and six months for Lais.

In May 2015, the couple started abusing the woman's son, with the man at first offering the child cash.

A Swiss citizen and three German men who also abused the boy, now aged 10, were jailed between eight to ten years.

They were convicted of rape, aggravated sexual assault of children, forced prostitution and distribution of child pornography, judge Stefan Buergelin said as he read out the verdict.

They charged several thousand euros (dollars) for each instance of abuse, filmed the acts and posted them on the dark net.

The court also ordered the couple to pay 42,500 euros (about $49,100) to the boy and a young girl who was also a victim, The Associated Press reported.

He also made serious accusations against the child's mother.

The boy was taken out of the family home in March previous year, but was sent back weeks later by a local court. The boy is in foster care and, per his lawyer, doing OK considering what he has been through.
