Salomon Rondon: Newcastle close to signing West Brom striker

United begin their Premier League campaign August 11 with a home fixture against Tottenham.

The news is a boost for Benitez, who admitted after Wednesday's 4-0 friendly loss to Braga that he is "really worried" about Newcastle's hopes for the season.

The Venezuelan had been tipped with a move to Tyneside last month, but the switch stalled after the clubs failed to reach an agreement.

So far this summer Newcastle have sold Mikel Merino to Real Sociedad for £10mn, Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham for £22mn, Chancel Mbemba to Porto for £8mn and Matz Sels to Strasbourg for £3.5mn.

Newcastle had already signed Mikel Merino, Martin Dubravka, Fabian Schär and Sung-yong Ki.

The club announced that Muto has signed an initial four-year contract at St James' Park.
