Trump Pushing US Army to Invade Iran: Top General

The comment comes after the Trump administration launched an online campaign to undermine the Iranian regime, in conjunction with a series of sanctions.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will reach out to a divided Iranian-American community - some of whom are dismayed by Washington's withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal and the reimposition of sanctions as well as a travel ban that prevents many Iranians from entering the United States - in a July 22 speech near Los Angeles.

Iranian President Hassan Rohani on Sunday cautioned the U.S. President Donald Trump about pursuing hostile policies against Tehran, saying "America should know. war with Iran is the mother of all wars", the semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

"Europe must present its approach and plans for the full implementation of the JCPOA", the top Iranian parliamentarian pointed out.

Rouhani went on to say that the US was not "in a position to incite the Iranian nation against Iran's security and interests", in an apparent reference to reported efforts by Washington to destabilize Iranian government.

Tensions between the USA and Iran have been heightened for years, dating back well before the Trump administration.

Rouhani's apparent threat earlier this month to disrupt oil shipments from neighboring countries came in reaction to looming USA sanctions and efforts by Washington to force all countries to stop buying Iranian oil.

Originally Trump demanded all other countries to stop buying its crude by November but now he says the United States may grant waivers to some allies heavily particularly reliant on Iranian supplies.

Khamenei said on Saturday it was an "obvious" mistake to negotiate with the USA because it does not abide by agreements.

Khamenei added: 'The word and even the signature of the Americans can not be relied upon, so negotiations with America are of no avail.

Under the landmark deal signed in Vienna, six world powers - the US, UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union - offered Iran more than $110bn a year in sanctions relief and a return to the global economy in exchange for halting its drive for nuclear weapons.
