Revenue was $30.1 billion (up 17 percent, year on year), operating income was $10.4 billion (up 35 percent), net income was $8.8 billion (a rise of 10 percent), and earnings per share were $1.14 (an increase of 11 percent).

Earnings per share (EPS) of $0.913. And Dynamics products and services sales were up 11 percent.

Moves into business services and cloud computing have reduced Microsoft's dependence on Windows, the dominant software for personal computers that has been overtaken in the consumer market by mobile devices powered by Google or Apple software.

Revenues of $30.1bn were up 17 per cent from $25.6bn in Q4 2017.

"We had an incredible year, surpassing $100 billion in revenue as a result of our teams' relentless focus on customer success and the trust customers are placing in Microsoft", Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella gushed.

Azure grew by 89% (85% CC), Server products grew by 8% (6% CC), Enterprise Mobility install base grew by 55% to 82 million, and server products and cloud services grew by 26% (24% CC).

The intelligent cloud division delivered fourth quarter revenue of $9.6 billion, up 23 percent from a year ago, with more personal computing sales at $10.8 billion.

Microsoft's Surface business also saw significant growth for the quarter, posting a 25 percent gain over the same time a year ago.

"Surface notebook revenue increased 25 per cent driven by strong performance of the latest editions of Surface against a low prior year comparable", the company said.

The COO also added about the trail of recent acquisitions for the company and how they are looking to bridge the gap between mobile, PC, and console gaming.

Productivity and Business Processes, the unit that includes Microsoft Office, was up 13% from the year-ago period, to $9.7 billion.

Microsoft has closed out a massive fiscal 2018 that saw the Redmond giant lay claim to more than $110bn in total revenue.

Despite continuing to invest in promising trends from cloud computing and artificial intelligence to gaming, Microsoft expected its profit margins to improve.

"The combination of Xbox Live Game Pass subscription and Mixer are driving record levels of growth and engagement".
