England got carried away with talk of the final, insists Roy Keane

Roy Keane laid into Ian Wright on ITV World Cup coverage of England v Croatia.

'I know England may have thought it was a bit tongue and cheek a few weeks ago, but you've got to focus on just one game at a time.

The quartet of former footballers were last together earlier in the tournament and viewers got a real kick out of Keane telling his colleagues to cool the jets after they beat Panama 6-1.

"I don't mind you being happy, but you were planning the final, where the parades were".

"People weren't even expecting us to get to the semi-final, why couldn't we have got excited about being there?"

Belgium Vs. England Live Stream
Victory today would secure England's highest World Cup finish since the triumph in 1966 and their highest ever on foreign soil. While England lost to Italy in 1990, Belgium were beaten by their conquerors in the semi-finals, France in 1986.

He's undoubtedly a love-him-or-hate-him kinda guy, but one thing you can't fault Roy Keane on is that he tells it like it is - even when you don't want to hear it.

"Before the game, all the talk was about the final".

Keane escalated matters further, telling Wright: "You've embarrassed yourself".

Kieran Trippier's early free kick sent England ahead on the night, but Ivan Perisic levelled the scores before Mario Mandzukic came up with an extra-time victor for Croatia.

Keane was on the warpath in the aftermath of the defeat as he accused Wright and English fans of getting ahead of themselves.

Schumer Calls On Trump To Cancel Putin Summit After Russian Indictments
Trump and Putin will meet in their first official standalone meeting on Monday at the Presidential Palace in Finland . The White House said the release of the charges would not affect the summit.

He added: "You are a grown man, you have played the game. We were happy! Why can't we get excited?"

Wright then replied by mocking Keane's Cork pronunciation of "final".

Keane and Wright are likely to again be in the studio this weekend as the World Cup comes to an end.

As Keane built up steam, Wright interrupts to insist he never declared England were going to win the World Cup.

England face Belgium in the third-place play-off on Saturday before the final between France and Croatia on Sunday.
