KIM SPEAKS: Kim Jong Un Praises 'EXTRAORDINARY' Trump in New Letter

The meeting came after months of extreme pressure sanctions on North Korea, after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's two known trips to the nation, and after the communist nation had ceased missile tests months prior.

DPRK is the acronym of North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. "It just didn't happen".

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said North Korea called at midday Thursday and offered to meet on Sunday instead. Pompeo had said when announcing the talks that the meeting could "move by one day or two".

But North Korea's take on the matter was entirely opposite as it alleged that the future of the peace process was being put into trouble by the US's "unilateral and gangster-like" demands aiming for Pyongyang's nuclear disarmament. The discussions about returning Americans soldiers killed nearly 70 years ago was perhaps the most tangible outcome from Pompeo's trip, which analysts expected would at least secure the release of some remains.

"If North Korea gives more substance on the implementation of denuclearisation, and if South Korea and the United States quickly take comprehensive corresponding measures, the whole process will accelerate".

Mr. Trump and Mr. Kim met for the first time in Singapore to discuss the relations between their nations and potential denuclearization June 12.

Trump has expressed an eagerness to tout the recovery of the war dead, telling Fox News that Kim was "giving us back the remains of probably 7,500 soldiers". Military officials later denied that, but told reporters that they expected the remains to arrive within days and had made prearrangements for their arrival, such as storing caskets near the DMZ.

"I have confidence that Kim Jong Un will honor the contract we signed &, even more importantly, our handshake".

In a Twitter message, Trump wrote, "A very nice note from Chairman Kim of North Korea".

North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-Un, has written a note to U.S. President Donald Trump, describing the American leader as "energetic and extraordinary".

The translated letter began, "Your Excellency Mr. President". Moon also said that Pompeo's visit had showed that both Pyongyang and Washington had the same view of denuclearization, according to his spokesman Yoon Young-chan.

"We had expected that the USA side would offer constructive measures that would help build trust based on the spirit of the leaders' summit. we were also thinking about providing reciprocal measures", Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.
