Nadal fights past Del Porto, Novak next

Nadal fights past Del Porto, Novak next

Nadal needed four hours and 48 minutes to win his first quarter-final at Wimbledon since 2011 when he beat Mardy Fish in four sets. He picked himself up and dusted himself down to play on for another eight games, but it was a different story an hour later when there was nothing left to fight for.

But Nadal was first to break in the deciding set and he built a 5-3 advantage with a looped forehand victor before confirming his final four place with a volley after four hours and 48 minutes.

"Well, at the moment I´m feeling sad after nearly five hours of running and playing this high level against the No. 1 in the world and losing", added Del Potro.

It was not as if Nadal was playing badly as he had lost only nine points on serve before heading into the ninth game of the second set.But just before that game started, Federer's shock demise was flashed up on the giant on-court scoreboard and it was as if that threw the Spaniard off his stride and he fluffed his lines to drop his serve. Sorry to Juan Martin, he's an fantastic opponent and awesome player.

Britain has notified the global chemical weapons watchdog, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). The poisoning of the Skripals was the first known offensive use of such a chemical weapon in Europe since World War Two.

With Roger Federer knocked out by Kevin Anderson, who faces John Isner in the other semi-final, both Nadal and Djokovic have an ideal opportunity to add to their Slam collections. "In some ways he deserves to go through too".

Former US Open champion Del Potro then stunned the Spaniard with the only break of the third set in the 10th game, secured with a deep forehand. I tried to resist, maintaining focus.

Then Del Porto managed to hold serve to love, forcing Nadal to serve out the match, which he did, winning it 6-4 to reach his sixth semi-final.

And Nadal rued failing to take control against del Potro much earlier.

Tendulkar, who is regular at Wimbledon finals, also expressed his regret at not being able to see Federer play this year. Anderson, a three-time All-American at IL , moves onto the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time in his career.

There was a look of glee in Del Potro's sometimes sad eyes, and his lumbering between-points walk had a bit more energy to it. Nadal, struggling to get a solid second serve into hard areas, was de-fanged for long stretches.

Nadal caught Del Potro napping in the fifth game, the big man slipping on the worn baseline dust as he was broken to love.

"I think I won the best point of the match", the Argentine said with a rueful smile after being beaten by Nadal for the 11th time in 16 meetings.
