Man harasses woman for wearing Puerto Rico shirt, saying it's 'un-American'

The video was recorded live on June 14, but has recently gone viral and has prompted the reassignment of an officer involved in the incident.

Criticism is building against a Cook County Forest preserve police officer who was placed on desk duty after a video showed him doing nothing while a man harassed a woman for wearing a shirt with the Puerto Rican flag.

Irizarry then explained to the officer that the situation began when she requested that the group move since she had a permit. "You know that right?" the harassing officer added referring to the woman's shirt. The world is not going to change the United States of America.

Irizarry said on Facebook that she had rented out a pavilion at the forest preserve for a birthday party when she and her family and friends were accosted by the unidentified man.

A woman setting up a birthday picnic at an IL park was repeatedly harassed by an angry stranger for wearing a T-shirt saying "Puerto Rico" in America. "He continued to follow me and I even asked you to step in because I felt uncomfortable".

Ironically, the initial officer wound up taking the official report from Irizarry, who pointed out that she asked for his assistance multiple times. She tells Connor she feels "highly uncomfortable", but in the video he appears to turn and walk in the other direction.

"This is what I'm wearing guys", she says revealing her outfit as a man yells at her in the background.

More officers eventually arrived and arrested the man, who was described as drunk.

"No one should feel unsafe while visiting our preserves", Figel said. As Mia's video went viral, Forest Preserves informed the public that the officer who failed to protect Mia is under investigation and now on desk duty. "At the same time, this video will help inform ongoing officer training so we can all learn from this unfortunate episode".

"I am appalled, shocked & disturbed by the officer's behavior", Rossello posted in a tweet.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello reacted to the video on Twitter.

Trybus was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct, according to the Forest Preserves.

‏"After the incident, we immediately launched an investigation pursuant to our personnel policies into the response of our officer", it said, in a series of posts on Twitter.

The police officer turned and walked back to his police auto without responding, as the irate man followed her out onto the grass.

"This was an attack of an American citizen on another American citizen", he said. The bigot is so deeply ignorant that he didn't know Puerto Ricans are American citizens.
