How Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation could affect Roe v. Wade

The nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to fill the Supreme Court seat vacated by Justice Anthony Kennedy would solidify a solid 5-4 conservative majority on the court, and it has some pro-abortion rights advocates anxious about what that majority could mean for cases regarding reproductive rights. What is important to me is that they say, "I will not overturn Roe v Wade" - make that very clear.

"I stand for the sanctity of life", Pence said separately. "Judge Kavanaugh has dedicated his life to public service and is an excellent choice who will uphold the U.S. Constitution". Before Roe, women seeking an abortion often had to resort to back-alley abortionists or homegrown methods - all risky, even life-threatening.

The announcement, made before the identity of President Donald Trump's latest judicial nominee was revealed, said the measure was a safeguard against "an extreme conservative Supreme Court Justice who could roll back advancements in reproductive health care".

Over 10,000 citizens signed the petition to let it fly, which the mayor finally agreed to, seeing it as a "peaceful protest".

As I've said, the most interesting thing to me about what Kavanaugh had to say was that his wife is a West Texan, graduated from high school in Abilene, Texas, and then was a graduate of the University of Texas. "Should the day come that Roe v. Wade is finally vanquished, pregnancy help centers will be at the ready to love and serve even more women, men, and children in need".

"In the face of this federal assault, NY is going to protect itself because this state has always been the progressive capital of the nation".

The Senate has a 50-vote threshold to confirm a Supreme Court justice.

The proposed legislation, previously passed by the Democratic-led Assembly, would allow non-doctors to perform abortions or "water down" criminal charges faced if an abuser harms a pregnant woman, she said.

"I definately think that is a serious threat", Chappelle Golston said, "I mean, Trump pledged to nominate a nominee that would overturn - or be willing to overturn - Rose v Wade, so we think that is a total possibility". They're already pointing to their worry about Roe v. Wade, about whether it will be overturned. And Justice Kennedy basically said, no, Roe v. Wade makes abortion legal, and you can't do all these conditions, as Pennsylvania had done, that makes it impossible for access. "That would be binding precedent", he said at the time.

Gillibrand urged her colleagues to oppose his nomination, citing the Supreme Court as a bulwark against numerous challenges by the Trump administration to roll back Obama-era regulations.

Trump Nominates Brett Kavanaugh For Supreme Court
Whoever the President chooses, the nominee is expected to go through hearings set up by Congress in the coming days and/or weeks. Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who have shown concern in the past about preserving access to abortion rights.

The case that's actually closest to the Supreme Court, noted Myrick, is a challenge to an IN law that would outlaw abortion if the woman is seeking it for sex selection or because the fetus could be disabled. "Now she's pregnant again, but she can't stay pregnant long enough for us to get a case to the U.S. Supreme Court". I think they have more interests than that, but every time we get to one of these judgeship nominations, that becomes the single, sole issue to Democrats.
